Senator Pia Cayetano reminds the League of Municipalities of the Philippines on the role of local executives in achieving sustainability

Cebu City (August 7) – Sen. Pia S. Cayetano, the first-ever
and former Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs), Innovation, and Futures Thinking, delivers a powerful message at the
Mindanao Island Cluster Conference of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines
on the role of local executives in achieving sustainability. She has long championed the attainment of all 17 SDGs, with
a particular focus on SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities
and Communities). In line with this, she urged local executives to enroll in
the capacity-building program on futures thinking at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), a project she actively supported as the Senior Vice
Chair of the Senate Finance Committee.

The Senator also emphasized the importance of long-term planning, urging municipal mayors to consider the legacy they wish to leave
behind and highlighting the need for strategic planning to realize this vision.

Cayetano, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Energy, also discussed the critical sustainability issues and national security
concerns related to ensuring reliable power.
